Boka de Banjul release their album ‘Lu Jot Yomb’

Out now: Boka de Banjul’s album ‘Lu Jot Yomb’, which means ‘everything has its time’ in Wolof.

The story behind this record is special: its existence is the result of the interweaving of many ideas, people, and cultures, with at the centre of it all Ebou Gaye Mada, griot, who founded the band in its early form back in 1999. Boka de Banjul combines the Gambian Mbalax with music from all over the world like jazz, afrobeat, reggae and more … for lovers of Youssou N’Dour, Ifang Bondi, Mdungu and Dandana (Ebou was a member of the last three bands).

Pitou’s ‘Be Delicate’ on BBC Radio 1

Pitou has revealed the artwork for her upcoming EP ‘I Fall Asleep So Fast’, due for release on May 11th, with a release show at Bitterzoet, Amsterdam on May 13th.

‘Be Delicate’ is the 4th track from the new EP, that was kindly played on BBC Radio 1 by both Hugh Stephens and Phil Taggart. Listen back to Phil’s show here, ‘Be Delicate’ can be heard at about 57:00.

“I love that. It’s so .. so strange isn’t it. I can’t wait to hear the full record. That’s a very brave move as a new musician, releasing something that is completely a capella.”

We can’t wait to share the full EP with you on May 11th. If you can make it to the release show, be sure to get your tickets in advance. You can do that here.

Avocet Announce EP Release at The Poetry Club, Glasgow

Avocet are releasing their debut EP during a night in their hometown of Glasgow, on May 23rd, at The Poetry Club!

Drawing inspiration from both the psychedelic folk scene alive in Britain during the 1960’s and 70’s, and free form blues, Herbie, Iona and Sam create their own compositions on harp, guitar, double bass and vocals. Their music has been compared to that of artists like like Nick Drake, Pentangle, and John Martyn.

Recently signed to Dutch/Scottish record label Mink Records, they travelled to the Netherlands to record their debut record at the Abbey Road Institute, Amsterdam.

Avocet have performed on BBC Scotland, and at an array of festivals and venues including Celtic Connection and Eden Festival. They were winners of the Danny Kyle Celtic Connections Award in 2017.

The trio released their debut single ‘Causeway’ on January 26th, 2018. The track received critical acclaim from platforms like Folk Radio U.K, and can be found in a number of Spotify playlists.
