Introducing: Boka de Banjul!

In 1999 Ebou Gaye Mada started the group Boka Halat de Banjul from jam sessions with various musicians. Boka Halat means “joined ideas’ in Wolof. The combination of the various band members, their ideas, their musical background and their shared passion for music became the basis of a platform for positive energy. Boka Halat de Banjul combines the Gambian Mbalax with music from all over the world like jazz, afrobeat, reggae and more.

Anyone who sees the Boka Halat de Banjul playing gets hit by the infectious energy. Ebou and his band play with such passion, experience and love for music that the viewer is included in the rhythms and melodies through this sparkling performance. It’s a great experience to see so much power, quality and improvisation talent on stage!

The Visual To Release New Music on Mink

We are delighted to finally announce our new collaboration with The Visual!

The Visual is an Amsterdam-based outfit. Utilizing lush atmospherics, intricate melodic currents and dissonance, Van Rij’s voice stands front and center as a nurturing, seductive, forlorn and longing presence, fluidly veering between these moods on the slightest whim. The Visual explores themes of identity, gender binaries and relationships from an inbred vantage point, leveling preconceived human notions to an overarching and elemental musical force.

We will be releasing their upcoming EP ‘Translation’, due on the 15th of December, at a release show at the Melkweg Amsterdam. Check out the Facebook event here.

The Mighty Breaks consists of six friends from the small Dutch town of Voorschoten. Known for their high energy live shows, the band’s weapons of choice are fuzzy guitars, keyboard riffs and the perhaps unusual but well thought out addition of saxophone, a combination so constructed that it would make any set of ears twitch. Their Garage Pop/90’s Alternative sound is inspired by artists like Guided By Voices, Black Lips and The Dandy Warhols.

New Signing: Jazz band SWART.

New release announcement! over the past few months we’ve been collaborating with Dutch/Spanish Jazz formation SWART.

Composer and saxophonist Celia Swart met her four Spanish band members during their time at the Royal Conservatoire, in The Hague. Their music has been described as an interesting fusion between the creativity from the Northern composition school and the contagious, passionate energy from the South.

SWART. has just finished recording in the studio and will be releasing their debut album with us on the 1st of June. So more soon!
