Recording at PAF! studio

ebouOver the last few days we have been busy recording The Stangs’ new EP in PAF! studio in Rotterdam, with Marcel Fakkers (the Madd) & Dave von Raven (the Kik). The upcoming record, due in February, will feature a pretty interesting array of session musicians, including jazz saxophonist Benjamin Herman, Ebou Gaye Mada who is a percussionist from Gambia (pictured above), Eline van Esch who is a solo flutist at the Hague’s Philharmonic Orchestra and Alba Careta Arnaus (trumpet) and Miguel Moises (trombone), who are young musicians from the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague.

Save the date!

After months of hard work the moment has finally come to present to you Pitou’s long awaited debut mini album, that will be released on Mink Records on the 8th of September. The release show will take place in one of the most atmospheric locations in Amsterdam: de Vondelkerk. Joined by her backing vocalists Roos Meijer & Louise Lindskov, Vincent Arp on double bass, and Kobra Ensemble, and others the mini album will be presented to you in an exceptionally magical setting. During the release show the record will be made available for the first time, on 10” vinyl and CD.

‘’Do you know that feeling of unexpectedly coming across an exceptionally beautiful, lost freakfolkpearl? Like Linda Perhacs, Vashti Bunyan or more recently; Julia Holter? That same feeling comes over us with the Amsterdam-born songstress Pitou, who combines her intimate songs with classical polyphony.’’ – Grasnapolsky Festival

Pitou fuses her classical vocal background with contemporary folk, creating a sound characterised by the use of interwoven vocal harmonies, present in each track and so arranged that they seem like an instrumental composition. Then there’s the songs; melodic and clear, not like you’ve heard before. In 2015 she won the ‘Mooie Noten’ songwriting competition, and played throughout the Netherlands at festivals like Grasnapolsky and Le Mini Who. In 2016 she was selected for Dutch travelling music festival, de Popronde. She became Popronde 3voor12 talent and played, amongst others, Valkhof Festival, Noorderzon and the Amsterdam Woods Festival.
