One Year Since The Release of The Visual – ‘Moment of Being’

Oh how time flies… today it’s exactly one year ago that we released The Visual‘s debut album ‘Moments of Being’. On Moments Of Being, The Visual assert patience in unraveling their truths, little by little. The songs were all written throughout a four-year period in which Van Rij slowly but surely transforms her vulnerability towards the outside world into a life-affirming empathetic force.

To celebrate, we have a a 25% webshop discount on the album on 12” vinyl and CD for a week (enter code: ‘The Visual’ upon checkout). It’s also available online, of course.

The album received a sea of critical acclaim, from platforms big and small, including radio stations such as BBC Radio 6 Music, where they did a live session the the studio. Some reviews:

NME: ‘The three-piece band’s sound tickles the same parts as Nick Cave, PJ Harvey or – most aptly – Jeff Buckley, thanks to the transcendent vocals of front woman Anna van Rij.’
The Line Of Best Fit: ‘The Visual are a trio from Amsterdam who make textural and affecting music which snaps between the epic and the angular. Fronted by the husky-voiced Anna van Rij, their best songs find a place when the ambience is tuned up a notch with synthetic beats and loops. Cinematic is an understatement.’
Gigwise: ‘Anna van Rij’s voice, cool and evanescent as the morning dew, veers between melancholy lethargy and emotionally wrought upper-register bends. Partner in crime Timon Persoon does his ‘voodoo soundman’ bit on keys, crafting an proper three-dimensional sound landscape at the tender locus of soundtrack and songwriting.’
Europavox: ‘The Visual, the project of singer songwriter Anna van Rij, is one of the best, slow-burn sultry pop that’s by turns lush, intricate, and melancholic.’
